The wooden skyline

In 2016, we introduced the wooden skyline as a unique wall decoration. It all started with the skyline of Rotterdam, but soon many other city skylines followed, from Amsterdam and Utrecht to New York and London. All City Shapes wall decorations are true eye-catchers in virtually any space. So, if you’re looking for wall decor for your living room, bedroom, or even a nursery or children’s room, we have beautiful options available for every space.

Together with the residents of each city, we carefully curate the buildings to create a recognizable and stunning final result. The selection always features the most beautiful and beloved buildings and monuments of a city. It usually becomes clear what the first few iconic buildings should be, but our selection typically expands to include at least ten buildings. This way, we also pay attention to the lesser-known structures. Our main goal is to truly reflect the pride of local residents in their city or village through our skylines.

How are the City Shapes skylines made?

The creation of our City Shape begins with selecting the buildings. Now that the selection process is clear, you might wonder what comes next. It starts with our designer, Tim. Once he has the selection for a city, he begins with an initial sketch, ensuring that the buildings are positioned correctly and form a beautiful composition. He then works on drawing each building in detail. Usually, there are a few rounds of feedback to ensure the final result is as perfect as possible.

Once the design is fully completed, it is carefully tested in our workshop. All wall decorations are lovingly crafted in our own workshop in Hoogvliet (Rotterdam). It’s truly from design to final product! After several tests, the design is only then considered truly final.

For our production, we use multiple high-quality laser cutters. Laser cutting is a processing technique that allows us to cut our wall decorations perfectly from wood. Our lasers enable us to make very precise cuts with virtually no material waste. In addition to laser cutting, our products are also carefully sanded, treated, and packaged for a flawless final product.

How do you hang the skyline on the wall?

With every order, there’s a simple guide to help you hang your city skyline on the wall. The included metal nails make it easy to mount on the wall. For the smaller sizes, we also provide ‘feet’ so you can display the decoration upright.

All the wood types we use are 100% sustainable and PEFC certified. This means that our wood comes from forests that are managed sustainably.
