We are Chris and Tim, Rotterdam brothers with a passion for modern craftsmanship and travel. Growing up in an entrepreneurial family meant we spent a lot of time at our father’s business—a furniture workshop. This early exposure to wooden products and the latest wood-processing techniques had a big impact on us. It’s no surprise, then, that in our own workshop, we use advanced laser machines to transform wood panels into detailed wall art!

In the quest for an alternative to bare walls, dull posters, and old paintings, the idea for City Shapes was born in the summer of 2016. When we first encountered a laser cutter, we thought, let’s create a skyline of our beloved city, Rotterdam! After posting a picture of it, requests started pouring in, and City Shapes came to life.
Shortly after selling our first Rotterdam skylines, we began receiving requests for various other cities. To keep up with demand, we had to add another machine… and another… and another… and then two more! This led to a larger production space, where we’re now creating beautiful pieces every day!
